Hip hop dance comes from breakdancing, but does not consist wholly of breakdancing moves. Unlike most other forms of dance, which are often at least moderately structured, hip hop dance has few (if any) limitations on positions or steps.
Hip-hop as a dance form originated on both the West and East Coast in two different genres in the 80's and 90's. It is a style closely related to Rap music and originated in the streets.
Today, hip-hop continues to evolve and change and is very popular among the younger set of dancers. Like with any dance form the best Hip-hop dancers have structured training like ballet to help them develop strength and control.
